Sound desk and Qlab

Sound desk and Qlab

During a show I worked on I was given the opportunity to to learn a little sound operation and Qlab training. Qlab is the system used to Que and edit tracks for a performance. A sound desk is used for mixing and controlling sound signals. Firstly we learned how to adjust the music in Qlab and line it up on the system. Then we used to sound desk to adjust the mics being used with the mic packs. Finally we go to practice a little by playing some tracks when Qued by the DSM. Overall I did enjoy learning about Qlab and trying to adjust the tracks but I found it all a little confusing meaning I just need more practice.

Fitting mics

Fitting mics

During the same show I learned how to fit mics on actors both hair line and headsets. Though I had done this before this was my first time doing it to actors for a show. to attach hair line mics we part the hair, fit the mic, then use clips and tape to keep it in place. With headset mics these just fit around the actors head and over the ears. Hair line mics are easier to conseil then headsets are they can be hidden by hair or wigs, headsets are used for those who have less hair to conseil the mic so are mainly used for male actors. Once the mics are fitted they are connected to a mic pack which is what amplifies their voice through the speakers. Once the mics are connected to the mic packs sound 1 would sound check them and adjusted the sound when needed. During a show if the mics need to be adjusted or checked this would be done by sound 2 back stage.
